What do I do

Osteopathy is a way of detecting, treating and preventing health problems by moving, stretching and massaging a person's muscles and joints.

Osteopathy is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on their bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue functioning smoothly together.

Osteopaths use physical manipulation, stretching and massage with the aim of:

  • increasing the mobility of joints
  • relieving muscle tension
  • enhancing the blood supply to tissues
  • helping the body to heal

In the UK, osteopathy is a health profession regulated by UK law. Only people registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) are allowed to practise as or call themselves osteopaths.

What to expect at your osteopathy appointment

When you first come to see me I will work with you to understand the cause of your problem and where your lifestyle, work and other factors could be a cause.

We are always looking to find the most appropriate diagnosis and design a treatment that suits you taking into account your lifestyle and ability to respond to treatment methods.

Initial assessment will include posture, spine and joints including deeper and detailed examination where necessary particularly in movement and function.

Osteopathic treatment is all about the individual and takes into account lifestyle (including work and personal exercise), posture and healthy living to ensure a personalised solution.
